and training in mental healthcare
Welcome to the SWLA Psychology Internship Consortium Site!
Overview
Counseling Services of Southwest Louisiana (CSSL) is pleased to sponsor the Southwest Louisiana (SWLA) Pre-doctoral Psychology Internship Consortium in conjunction with other mental healthcare and psychiatric service providers in Calcasieu and surrounding parishes. The consortium is nestled in Lake Charles, Louisiana, conveniently located off Interstate-10 east of Houston, Texas (142 miles) and west of New Orleans, Louisiana (205 miles).
The SWLA Pre-doctoral Internship Consortium has two full-time internship positions available for 2016-2017. Positions will begin on September 1, 2016. The Consortium's emphasis is on acquiring generalist training working with a population which spans from children to older adults, including those with chronic mental illness. Placements are community based. Opportunities for rotations include: community based psychological services, applied research, and neuropsychology/ rehabilitation psychology. Due to the consortium nature of the program, not all placements will be available each calendar year. Assignments to placements will be based on experience and goals. Intern preference is welcomed; however, placement at specific sites may not be guaranteed. Yearly Pre-doctoral Intern stipend is approximately $27,000.
All coursework and comprehensive exams must be completed prior to application. Prior research experience is required, and travel to seminars and conferences is expected. Final acceptance is contingent on successfully completing and passing all background screenings through state and local authorities. A site visit may be necessary to complete background screenings after provisional acceptance is established with the internship faculty. Applications will only be accepted through the APPIC website. Deadline for applications is November 13, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. CST.
Additional information regarding the internship is available on the APPIC website and in our program handbook, which can be found below.
